Houston Rockets’ Dwight Howard apparently called police to take action against a fan who threw a basketball and hit him in the head. The incident occurred near the bleachers as Howard was walking back to the locker room after Monday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in L.A.TMZ reported the details:“The Houston Rockets star was walking toward the tunnel to the locker room at Staples Center after losing to the Clippers Monday night when a basketball came out of the stands and smacked him in the head.“We’re told Dwight was furious … believing whoever had the ball hurled it at him on purpose. Dwight immediately went to stadium security to report the incident and pushed for the offender to be arrested.“Sources say security found the person who had the ball — a 22-year-old man — and detained him inside the stadium to conduct an investigation. We’re told the LAPD was also involved.Come to find out the fan just wanted Dwight’s autograph and the ball accidentally slipped out of his hands. The video footage in the arena backed up his story and he was released by security.”Howard was boo’ed heavily from the moment he stepped on the court in his first game back in L.A., likely in protest of him abandoning the Lakers for the Rockets earlier this year.
San Diego Zoo Safari Park celebrates the birth of 97th Southern White Rhino SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A 9-day-old male southern white rhino spent Friday morning exploring his habitat at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park — running around a little, napping, checking out all his surroundings, napping, nursing from mom and napping some more. The curious little ungulate even went face-to-face with a cape buffalo, knowing mom was nearby to protect him.The baby rhino, named Justin, was born the evening of Feb. 7 to mom Kacy, in the 60-acre East African Plains enclosure. The calf weighed an estimated 125 pounds at birth, and keepers report he is very healthy and is developing on track. It is estimated that Justin will gain 100 pounds a month in his first year, and when full grown he could weigh 4,000 to 5,000 pounds.“Justin is very cute, and he’s beginning to show lots of personality,” said Matt Gelvin, lead keeper, San Diego Zoo Safari Park. “He is very playful—running, jumping—and loves checking out everything around him, including the animals that share his habitat. However, his mom Kacy is a very attentive and protective mom. She is fairly tolerant of the other rhinos and animals being curious about the baby, but she is definitely keeping a close eye on them.”There are an estimated 18,000 southern white rhinos remaining in the wild. The southern white rhino is classified as Near Threatened on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species, due to poaching threats and illegal trafficking of rhino horn. Currently, a rhino dies every eight hours in South Africa, due to poaching.San Diego Zoo Global has been working for more than 40 years, along with other accredited zoos, to keep a sustainable population of rhinos safe under human care while working to protect them in sanctuaries in their native habitats. To further its commitment to rhino conservation, San Diego Zoo Global recently built the Nikita Kahn Rhino Rescue Center to house six southern white rhinos brought in from South Africa. The 3.5-acre state-of-the-art animal facility is dedicated to the conservation of white rhinos, with a focus on assisted reproductive techniques.Rhinos are very important to the ecosystems in which they reside. Southern white rhinos live in the savannas of Africa. These gentle giants are mega-herbivores, grazing on grasses—which helps maintain the diverse African grasslands, increasing plant diversity and providing grazing areas for other animals that share their natural habitat, such as elephants, zebras, antelope and gazelles.Kacy’s calf is the 97th southern white rhino calf born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park since 1972. Rhino calf Justin and his mom can best be seen roaming their habitat from the Park’s Africa Tram Safari, a Caravan Safari, a Balloon Safari, or from the Park’s new giraffe cam (showcasing a multitude of animals including rhinos, giraffes, African crowned cranes, gazelles and others) viewable online at sdzsafaripark.org/giraffe-cam.Video Playerhttp://www.kusi.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/baby-rhino-b-roll.mp4Media error: Format(s) not supported or source(s) not foundmejs.download-file: http://www.kusi.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/baby-rhino-b-roll.mp4?_=100:0000:0000:00Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume. Comments 70 Photos Long-term 2018 Ford Mustang GT: Wrapping up two wild months 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 first drive: A more approachable track star More From Roadshow 2019 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Convertible review: A topless thrill ride Ford Enlarge ImageThe Ford Mustang EcoBoost is the best entry-level Mustang in years, but Ford might be about to make it better. For a long time, the words, “entry-level Mustang” gave any driving enthusiast a severe case of the willies. Whether it was a straight-six model in the 1960s or ’70s or the V6 models of the ’90s and 2000s, they were never that interesting to drive. That started to change when Ford introduced the EcoBoost Mustang a few years ago, and all of a sudden you had almost unprecedented ease of tuning, thanks to a turbo and modern electronics, coupled with the best Mustang chassis ever. That’s why when we heard rumors that Ford was prepping some kind of entry-level cost but not entry-level performance Mustang to be shown at the New York Auto Show, we were pretty floored. Could this be the reborn Mustang SVO that we have been dreaming of? Well, based on the invite we received Friday to a mysterious background event that Ford is holding for the Mustang soon, that seems like it could be the case. Fingers crossed.Just for some perspective, the current EcoBoost Mustang makes a respectable 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, but the 2.3-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been proven time and again to be plenty stout enough for much more power. We’d love to see this new flavor of Mustang make around 340-360 hp, 400 lb-ft of torque and add most of the features from the EcoBoost performance pack as standard, like the upgraded differential for somewhere around $33,000.Ford verified to Roadshow that there would indeed be a new Mustang variant on the stand during the New York Auto Show in a couple of weeks, but haven’t given us any more information than that.
