By the end of the season, as long as they keep playing like this, they should give him the job whether or not they finish in the top four.“If they don’t, I’m sure that another Premier League team will give him the job. He’s making his name once again in the top-flight and it’s great for him.“When a club legend becomes your manager, he automatically gets the attention of the players, purely because he had been there and done that.“When you are in the position of Ole, having scored so many goals and won so many trophies, he gets the attention.“He doesn’t need to yell or scream to prove anything, he just gets it.“From that point on, he needs to show them that they need to trust him, that he knows what he’s doing and, judging by the results and the way they play, it’s obviously working.”

Spain coach Moreno frustrated after Norway equaliserby Carlos Volcano13 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveSpain suffered a last gasp goal on Saturday, with Norway scoring a late equaliser to draw 1-1 and to leave coach Robert Moreno frustrated.Saul Niguez’s dipping second-half effort was cancelled out by Josh King’s injury-time penalty to ruin Spain’s 100% record in Group F.After the game, Moreno discussed the bad feeling in the dressing room.”When they equalise in the 93rd minute, you can’t feel good,” explained Moreno. “But that’s part of football.”We knew that they could be dangerous in that type of play.”In the final minutes we were a little nervous and we risked too much, but that can happen.”Despite the setback, Moreno chose to reflect on the positives from the game.”I liked the attitude of the team,” he said.”The players who played have done well.”I think we generated chances to score the second, but I wish we could have defended those plays better.” About the authorCarlos VolcanoShare the loveHave your say
point guard derryck thonton dukeJust one day after he met face-to-face with Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, five-star Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep point guard Derryck Thornton has committed to the Blue Devils, according to ESPN’s Paul Biancardi. Breaking News. PG Derryck Thorton has told ESPN that he has made a verbal commitment to Duke. STORY http://t.co/cdlFzc6kM1— Paul Biancardi (@PaulBiancardi) April 21, 2015As Biancardi states, Thornton will reclassify to 2015 and enroll at Duke this summer. His decision fills a crucial void for the national champions, who didn’t have a true point guard on their roster following the departures of Quinn Cook and Tyus Jones. The 6-foot-2 Thornton will be expected to run the show for Krzyzewski’s squad, which is still in the running for a handful of 2015 recruits, including five-star wing Brandon Ingram. Despite the losses of Jones, Cook, Justise Winslow and Jahlil Okafor, Duke projects as a borderline top-10 team next season with Thornton, forward Chase Jeter, shooting guard Luke Kennard and Rice transfer Sean Obi joining a nucleus of returnees which includes starting forward Matt Jones, Final Four hero Grayson Allen and veteran big men Marshall Plumlee and Amile Jefferson.

Colin Cowherd IowaFOX Sports radio show host Colin Cowherd wasn’t very high on Iowa all year – and he made it clear on a weekly basis. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that PSG winger Timothy Weah was given a tour of the club’s facilities earlier this month. Weah, 18, has confirmed he will leave the Ligue 1 champions on loan in January as he seeks more playing time. The U.S. international is highly rated but has played in just three games in all competitions this season for PSG, and hasn’t been in the club’s gameday squad since August. Celtic have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for Weah, along with Ligue 1 sides Strasbourg and Amiens. But Rodgers hopes that the Hoops have stolen a march on the competition by giving the teenager a VIP tour of their Lennoxtown training centre earlier this month. “PSG gave us permission to speak with Timothy and he came over with his representatives,” Rodgers said. “He had a great day here. We have good relations with PSG, so he came over.“He sent me a lovely message afterwards, thanking everyone and saying he enjoyed it, so we will see.“They clearly want him to go on loan to get experience, so he is a good kid, a great boy and a great profile in terms of his game.“There are lots of selling factors for him to come here. The club, the supporters, the intensity, the pressure, the style of football and people that he knows.“There’s many plusses that can help in the decision.”Weah’s father George was a legendary player in his day, wining the Ballon d’Or in 1995.Rodgers is hoping that his experience managing another son of a well-known player will also work out in Celtic’s favour. “I said to him: We have to do what we did with Ryan Christie! I said we had a player here who was once Charlie Christie’s son and now he’s Ryan Christie’s dad.”So our job with you is to make him [George] Timothy Weah’s dad!”Should Weah decide to make the move, he will be joining a team that currently sits top of the league, three points clear of rivals Rangers with a game in hand. That lead could disappear on Saturday when the two clubs clash in an Old Firm derby, the final match of the year for the club. Following the derby, Celtic won’t be back in action until January 19.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City in an £80 million ($97m) deal that sees the centre-back sign a six-year contract, with the option of a further year, at Old Trafford. The long-running saga came to an end on Monday as the England international put pen to paper to become part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rebuild at the Theatre of Dreams. The move sees Maguire surpass Virgil van Dijk to become the most expensive defender of all time, with the Netherlands international having joined Liverpool for £75m in January 2018. Fans have been calling for defensive reinforcements for some time at United, with many believing Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic to have been the last two truly reliable centre-halves at the club.Solskjaer said upon the announcement of Maguire’s arrival: “Harry is one of the best centre-backs in the game today and I am delighted we have secured his signature.”He is a great reader of the game and has a strong presence on the pitch, with the ability to remain calm under pressure – coupled with his composure on the ball and a huge presence in both boxes – I can see he will fit well into this group both on and off the pitch.”He has a great personality and is a fantastic addition to the club.“I would like to welcome Harry to Manchester United and we are looking forward to working with him as we prepare for the new season.”Maguire added: “I am delighted to have signed for this great club. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leicester and would like to thank everyone at the club, and the fans, for their fantastic support over the past two seasons.”However, when Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity.”From my conversations with the manager, I am excited about the vision and plans he has for the team. It’s clear to see that Ole is building a team to win trophies. I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting the season started.”A sixth-place finish in the Premier League last term following Solskjaer’s appointment to replace Jose Mourinho in the dugout was considered a hugely disappointing return for a club of United’s stature and Maguire is seen as a ready-made edition to aid in their mission to return to challenging for the English top-flight crown and the Champions League.Maguire becomes United’s third signing of the summer following the earlier arrivals of Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.

The defensive back played at Navy in 2016 before transferring to Notre Dame. The Hawaii native posted a picture of the letter he received on Snapchat.“This the type of energy we all don’t need in 2019. Miss me with all that nonsense,” he captioned his post. The letter was then posted on Twitter:“We must express utter contempt for you and your educational and career decisions over the past couple of years,” the letter reads.“You were honored with the highest appointment possible to the United States Naval Academy and were given a one year prep school scholarship because of your questionable academic record. And how do you thank our great country for giving you a chance to serve? With two years of eligibility remaining, he has reportedly set his sites on two targets schools.According to 247Sports, Starkel is lining up visits with the Florida State Seminoles and the Arkansas Razorbacks. His visit to Arkansas is slated for March 1, while his visit to Willie Taggart’s team is set for March 29.“I scheduled a official to FSU for March 29th weekend,” Starkel told Noles247. “I’m going to Arkansas on March 1st. I have spring break in between those two and FSU has spring break, which is the only reason they’re so far apart.”Starkel saw his most significant playing time with Texas A&M in 2017. In seven games, he completed 60-percent of his passes for 1,793 yards and 14 touchdowns with only six interceptions. But Starkel was unable to pry the job from Kellen Mond, and was limited to just four appearances with limited snaps the following season.Florida State should be making a pretty big push for Starkel, as the team’s quarterback position is in limbo for next season. The team recently cut starter Deondre Francois following a controversial video that seemed to indicate violence, and did not secure a quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class. As for Arkansas, the Razorbacks went just 2-10 under Chad Morris last year and got only limited production out of their quarterbacks in the process.Suffice it to say, Starkel has made a rather savvy move in picking between two schools that are both eager to improve at the quarterback position.Stay tuned.

(Photo by Leon Halip/Getty Images)Two Big Ten football coaches are feuding ahead of the 2019 college football season. They used to work together.Michigan’s new offensive coordinator, Josh Gattis, used to work under now-Maryland head coach Mike Locksley when the latter was the play-caller at Alabama.Locksley spoke at Big Ten Media Days about Gattis’ lack of play-calling experience.Gattis responded on Wednesday while speaking to the media. He had a lengthy response: “I have tremendous amount of respect for Mike Locksley,” Gattis said. “He called every play. There was never any other comments about that.“(I’m) 100% confident. Mike Locksley can say I watched him call every play. Ask him where the game plans usually came from! I’m fine with that, you know what I mean? He called every play, and I’ve got a notebook upstairs with a lot of the game plans written down in them.“I’ve got tremendous respect for him. Obviously, things didn’t work out the way they (could have at Alabama). I consider him a friend and a mentor, and that’s the way I see it. I don’t have any bad feelings. He’s done a tremendous amount for my career. So I respect him for that.“But as far as my confidence level? It’s extremely high. I prepared for this opportunity. I put myself in a position of being able to be a figure that’s been important. And one of the things that I talk about, when you talk about playcalling and playing games, your call sheet is won Monday through Friday. What you call on Saturday is about putting your kids in a position to be successful. There’s been coordinators out there that have been coordinators for 20 years that aren’t successful. It’s not because they’ve been coordinators for 20 years, it’s because they’re not putting their kids in a position to be successful. You know, you win the game Monday through Friday. It’s something I’ve taken tremendous pride in throughout the years, is making sure I’m a big part of the game plan process at the places I’ve been.“And also – just because I haven’t called plays before, I’ve recommended a lot of plays during games. That’s where it comes down.Locksley then responded to Gattis’ comments on Saturday:“There’s a difference between suggestions and decisions. And I’m sure that notebook he has upstairs has a lot of suggestions in them. And hopefully he’ll utilize them in the right way and make good decisions like I did for Alabama,” he said.Mike Locksley on Josh Gattis’s comments:”There’s a difference between suggestions and decisions.
