Disney declined to comment on the deal Tuesday. CinemaNow, based in Marina del Rey, announced similar deals in April with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Lionsgate. Such films as “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Saw II,” “Fun With Dick and Jane” and the horror film “Hostel” have been offered. Eisen said so far the number of downloads “has not gone through the roof but is in line with our expectations.” He declined to give any specific figures. The movies sell for $19.99 per download, which Eisen acknowledges is a “a little higher than it should be.” He said the company is experimenting with some discount pricing for the future. CinemaNow Inc. will announce today a partnership with Disney’s Buena Vista Home Entertainment that will enable consumers to legally download certain movie titles they can own instead of rent. The movies – beginning with the basketball drama “Glory Road” on Tuesday – will be available for downloading the same day they debut on DVD. While they can be moved from computer to certain portable devices for unlimited play, they will not be able to be played on a regular DVD player. “Disney picked us to be the first company to launch with. It’s a real nice vote of confidence and we take it real seriously,” CinemaNow President Bruce Eisen said Tuesday. “We are very nimble, very flexible, and able to move fast and make things happen.” Disney and CinemaNow, which had already been partners in the on-demand rental market, will also be offering recent releases “Eight Below” on June 20 and “Annapolis” on June 27 on a download-to-own basis as well as last year’s Jodie Foster hit “Flightplan” and such catalog favorites as “The Insider.” email@example.com (818) 713-3758160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
