DEXTER `De Kid’ Marques and Imran `Magic’ Khan are both confident of securing wins when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control stages its `Locked and Loaded’ boxing card at the Giftland Mall, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara on April 9.Marques, who has been out of action for just over a year and will be coming up against Venezuela’s Luis Alberto Requena Zarraga in the feature 10-round flyweight contest, said he will be ready for the April 9 showdown and is confident of victory.Marques (15-2-0) while being absent from the ring for just over one year stepped up preparation for his upcoming bout two Sundays ago at the Andrew `Six Head’ Lewis Boxing Gym and sparred 10 rounds with three amateur boxers. He also did some work on the heavy bag.Marques last entered the `square jungle’ in February 2016 against Requena’s countryman Freddy Beleno and this was two years after his fight against Jamaican Rudolph Hodge whom he defeated. Marques had fought Hodge in 2014 and was absent from the ring until 2016.Khan, on the other hand, who made his professional debut in 2015 and who stopped David Thomas in the second round on his debut, lost his next two fights to Quincy Gomes in February and August of last year. However, he said he is more prepared for his encounter against Keeve Allicock whom he will face in a six-round lightweight encounter.Khan said after losing to Gomes in his last fight, he had wanted to quit the sport, but he and his opponent live in the same community (Albouystown) and every day he will hear Allicock saying that he (Khan) cannot beat Allicock, so he changed his mind and decided to take the fight and prove his point.Khan said come April 9, the ambulance will have to come and collect Allicock from the venue when he is done with him. But Allicock was quick to respond, saying the ambulance will come to the venue, but it will be to collect Khan on a stretcher and he (Allicock) will actually be in the ambulance, but not as a patient, but to accompany Khan to the hospital.Meanwhile, the other fights on the night’s card will see Edmond De Clou tackling Winston Pompey in a super middleweight contest over six rounds. The other segment of the Pro-Am card will feature three amateur fights. The opening bout brings together Rewinne David in a junior lightweight contest over four rounds.Kelon Isaacs and Euel Augustin in a 3-round junior welterweight bout and Stephan Gouveia will face Jackford Joseph in a three-round welterweight contest.
